From April 8-10 the year 5 students from our class joined the two year 5/6 classes and the Lagmhor year 5&6s for camp at Pudding Hill. Hopefully the students who were there can comment on this blog to tell us what they got up to there and what they enjoyed the most. Check out all the photos too:

Students enjoyed a day at the Ashburton Museum, learning about life for Maori before the settlers came. Also what life was like for the early settlers, what things they brought to NZ and the changes in the way land was used. It was great to see and hold old stone tools and have a go at making butter and grinding grain as well.

Students were lucky to experience a few trips away from school in term 1. We were so busy after them that write-ups about them didn't quite make it on to the blog! Here are some photos... perhaps students could explain a bit about where we went, what we did, what you learned and enjoyed about the trip... Write these things in the comments.

It's Ms Wills here... I hope all the Paper Plus students are having a good holiday so far. Tell us what you are up to in the comments if you are doing something interesting.

Throughout Term 1 the students earned Auction dollars. They could earn them for excellent homework, for following instructions and working hard, for following our class treaty etc. Likewise, students could also be fined for inappropriate behaviour.

On the last day of the term they get to spend their dollars at the class auction. For sale this term were Easter eggs, chocolate bars, postcards, jewellery, candle holders, a lantern, stickers, fizzy drink, biscuits, business class airline pack, candy canes, hackysacks, puzzles and more!

The auction was a lot of fun and everyone went home with something. I wonder what will be for sale at the next auction?

For Leah in Perth and any other blog readers coming to Ashburton or wanting to know more about it, here are our tips:

1. Climb to the top of Pudding Hill to get a good view of the plains (the year 5s did this at camp).
2. Have a picnic in the Ashburton Domain.
3. Swim in the Ashburton Pool.
4. Visit Lake Hood. Swim there or walk around it, and go to the Lake House (Bar & Restaurant). You can even take the mountain bike track there from Ashburton.
5. Alex recommends the Thai Restaurant.
6. Drive to Lake Heron to see the mountains and beautiful nature, and the old building at Hakatere.
7. Drive past the Ashburton Lakes (Lake Camp and Clearwater) to Mt Sunday which was Edoras in Lord of the Rings.
8. Visit Ashburton Borough School because we are an EnviroSchool. You can see how we respect nature and see our nice gardens.
9. Jadah recommends visiting 'Sparrows' shop to get clothes made in New Zealand (Her dad runs it!)
10. Visit the museum and art gallery.
